About this grant

The program goal is to further extend and embed the model of community schools in Ukraine. To date, the Ukrainian Step by Step Foundation has increased to over 800 schools that are using or operating under community school principles. The grantee continued to provide and refine curricula for all 22 in-service teacher training institutes controlled by Ukrainian authorities. The Ministry of Education has adopted the International Quality Standards for Community Schools that the grantee helped develop as a monitoring tool for school development. In addition, the grantee piloted specialized programs for internally displaced persons in four regions. In 2017-2019, the grantee will shift focus from expansion to consolidation and sustainability of community schools in the context of progressive education reforms in Ukraine. It will work to enhance and disseminate an improved model of participatory quality assessment for Ukrainian schools while strengthening key areas of teaching and learning around entrepreneurship. The Ukrainian Step by Step Foundation was created in 1999 with the aim of facilitating educational development and innovative educational initiatives in Ukraine.
