About this grant
This grant will provide partial support to the Citizen Action of Wisconsin Education Fund for organizing efforts to increase the power of low-income residents to become effective education advocates in their communities. Most of the community organizing efforts are centered in Milwaukee, the largest school system in the state that also serves the majority of low-income students and students of color; however, the organization also works at the state level to secure education funding. The project goals include working to improve educational opportunities for students in low-income neighborhoods by focusing on sustaining and expanding funding for afterschool programs, recruiting and training new community leaders, and increasing the participation of low-income residents in grassroots organizing activities.
