About this grant
The program goal is to foster civic engagement through promotion of volunteer activities that raise awareness about people’s rights and responsibilities. The Center for the Support of Democratic Youth Initiatives will engage students in helping elderly victims of Soviet political repression; conduct learning and outreach activities to promote volunteerism and foster good volunteer management practices among regional civic organizations; and initiate efforts to establish corporate volunteer programs in the Privolzhsky federal region. The grantee will also conduct expeditions to document former Soviet prison camps and will organize volunteer work camps at the Perm-36 Memorial Center of the History of Political Repression. In the previous grant period, the grantee engaged over 1,000 people in its volunteer development activities and organized over 4,300 visits to victims of repression. Established in 1998, the grantee promotes ideals of community service and human rights awareness in young people by confronting the tragic history of political repression.
