About this grant

The Community Chest of the Western Cape was established in 1928 to support community-based organizations in Cape Town in the Western Cape Province. It provides training, conducts community conversations, and makes grants and in-kind donations to organizations working in the province. The capacity building program provides skills training to leaders of community-based organizations and other community development practitioners. Over the last two years, the training program has built leadership and management capacity within community-based organizations, enabling the organizations to access funding and other resources in the province. It has also partnered with universities and state-owned entities to deliver training on subjects such as organizational development and financial management to its students and constituencies. This grant will support the Community Chest of the Western Cape to continue providing training to community-based organizations on topics related to building leadership and organizational capacity, facilitate regular talks on philanthropy to encourage effective local giving, and host community conversations on topical issues affecting communities to build social cohesion.
