About this grant
This grant will provide general purpose support to the Foundation for Human Rights, established with support from the European Union to implement a human rights funding program in South Africa. The organization has evolved into one of the most significant indigenous grantmakers in the country supporting the development and strengthening of a culture of human rights in South Africa. The grantee supports civil society-based organizations and public institutions to promote, protect, and advance human rights, especially grassroots and community organizations involved in addressing poverty and inequality. Prior support allowed it to enhance and strengthen its role as an indigenous grantmaker, especially as this relates to its internal systems of governance, finance and administration, legal capacity, grants administration, and project management. This grant will continue support to the organization to provide better access to marginalized communities to strengthen their ability to access their rights, raise the awareness of constitutional rights, and increase participation in the democratic process.
