About this grant
The Flint Cultural Center Corporation operates Whiting Auditorium, Sloan Museum, and Longway Planetarium, and manages the 38-acre Flint Cultural Center campus which also includes Flint Institute of Arts, Flint Institute of Music, and Flint Public Library. In addition, the newly restored Capitol Theatre is operated by The Whiting. Approximately 250,000 students and adults annually attend or participate in a variety of cultural, educational, and instructional programs and activities at these cultural center organizations. In addition to offering national touring artists and live theater, the corporation also focuses on providing educational programming both on site and directly in the schools. Like other cultural organizations around the country, earned income from admissions and fees, combined with endowment income, does not provide sufficient revenue to maintain facilities and operate programs. This grant will provide operating support to the Flint Cultural Center Corporation for the benefit of its facilities, member organizations, and programs.
