About this grant
The Flint Institute of Arts (FIA), founded in 1928 as an art school and incorporated in 1930, operates in the DeWaters Art Center building on the Flint Cultural Center campus. A recent, two-phase, $20-million building renovation and expansion will enable the institute to attract new audiences and patrons, better meet the needs of the increasingly diverse community it serves, and exhibit more of its collection. This grant will provide support to cover rising operating and programming expenses.Programs and services include an art school with studio classes in all media for all ages, permanent collection exhibitions, traveling exhibitions, gallery tours, educational outreach, student exhibitions, film screenings, chamber music concerts, family-oriented events, lectures and workshops, docent-led tours for students and adults, and international loans from FIA’s collection.
