About this grant
This grant will provide operating support to the Flint Institute of Music. The institute is the home of the Flint School of Performing Arts, Flint Symphony Orchestra, and Flint Youth Theatre. The institute assumed governance of the youth theatre in January 2009 in order to place all performing arts organizations under a common management. During the past year, the institute provided instruction, programming, and concerts for over 240,000 children and adults. While operating costs are being reduced slightly due to shrinking revenues, the music and dance school, drama school, and symphony will maintain their high quality programming, continue efforts to diversify their activities to attract more nontraditional audiences, and reach out into the community to serve all residents of Genesee County.
