About this grant
This grant will provide operating support to the Flint Institute of Music to continue to offer instruction and performances in music, dance, and theater for residents in Genesee County. The institute is the home of the Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Flint School of Performing Arts, and the Flint Youth Theatre. During the past year, nearly 300,000 children and adults utilized the institute for instruction, programming, and concerts. Increasing operating costs, expanded programming and outreach activities, cutbacks in state funding, and a greater demand for tuition assistance are increasing challenges for the institution. The Flint Institute of Music remains focused on improving program quality, expanding programming to attract more nontraditional audiences, and reducing barriers to increase attendance by all ages and backgrounds.
