Learning Through Practice: Building Partnerships Between Organizations of the Urban Poor and Local Authorities

About this grant

The Community Organisation Urban Resource Centre provides support to networks of urban and rural poor communities to enable them to learn from one another and to use their collective power to advocate for support for community-initiated development projects, particularly housing projects, from government and other stakeholders. Previous Mott support has assisted communities living in informal settlements to access land and basic services for housing and to conduct research and disseminate findings on the plight of the homeless in South African towns and cities. This grant will enable the Community Organisation Urban Resource Centre to continue providing support to poor communities to access formal housing and basic services through engagement with government, particularly at the local level.
