About this grant
This grant renewal to Legal Services of Eastern Michigan will allow the local Individual Development Accounts program, known as the Genesee Area Investment Network$, to allocate 90 additional Individual Development Accounts to low-income individuals in Genesee County. In its fourth year, this savings program has successfully provided matched savings accounts for individuals for microenterprise, education and job training, homeownership, transportation, and foreclosure prevention, with 36 individuals graduating and reaching their specific savings goal. In 2006, the Foundation provided a grant increase to more than double the number of savings accounts available to low-income households in Flint and Genesee County from 89 to 206. With these 90 proposed new accounts and Mott’s past investments in the program, the Genesee Area Investment Network$ will provide nearly 300 accounts to local residents by 2010.
