About this grant
Since the end of communism, civil society has rapidly developed in Central/Eastern Europe. Currently, there are hundreds of large, sophisticated non-governmental organizations addressing a wide range of important issues throughout European Union (EU) new member states and candidate countries. These organizations are eager to learn new methods and approaches, and find opportunities for international exchange.Multiyear funding will enable the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe, in partnership with several European foundations, to support exchange fellowships for Central/Eastern European nonprofit leaders with their counterparts in Western Europe. The goal of the fellowship program is to develop the professional skills of key staff members of participating organizations. At the same time, the fellowships will foster cooperation among Western and Eastern European organizations. The trust was established in 2000 to promote the development and long-term stabilization of civil society in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
