About this grant
For 63 years, Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties has provided intervention services for individuals and families in crisis. More than 80 percent of those served are nonCatholic, and last year the organization served over 165,000 meals and provided over 102,000 items to families with low or no income. Funding will support meals and other activities at the North End Soup Kitchen and its extension sites, which are all located in the city of Flint. Services at the North End Soup Kitchen include providing a hot meal every day, sack lunches, hygiene and basic needs items, and summer youth camps. Demand for these services is expected to be very high, as families and individuals are forced to make painful choices in this difficult economy.
