About this grant
Rhodes University was founded in 1904 and is one of the oldest universities in South Africa with a reputation as a center of excellence. The Rhodes University Law Clinic: Advice Office Project is part of the law faculty at Rhodes University, and its activities include assisting poor people with legal advice, running human rights awareness campaigns, and supporting paralegal advice offices in the Eastern and Western Cape provinces. Past support allowed the clinic to provide training and mentoring support to advice office paralegals, provide financial support to select advice offices, and assist clients requiring legal support and representation. This grant increase will support the Rhodes University Legal Aid Clinic to enhance backup legal services to community advice offices and to make additional grants to community advice offices. This grant increase has been made possible by a partnership with Atlantic Philanthropies in support of the community advice office sector.
