About this grant
Rhodes University was founded in 1904 and is one of the oldest universities in South Africa with a reputation as a center of excellence. The Rhodes University Law Clinic: Advice Office Project is part of the law faculty at Rhodes University, and its activities include assisting poor people with legal advice, running human rights awareness campaigns, and supporting paralegal advice offices in the Eastern and Western Cape provinces. Past support enabled the clinic to provide training and mentoring support to advice office paralegals, provide financial support to select advice offices, and assist clients requiring legal support and representation. This grant will support the grantee training of over 100 advice office paralegals on subjects including management, organization development, fundraising, and various aspects of the law. The grantee will also continue to fund and provide backup legal services and administrative support to advice offices in the Eastern and Western Cape provinces.
