About this grant
The Rhodes University Legal Aid Clinic: Advice Office Project was established in the 1970s to provide free, legal services to poor communities in the Eastern Cape province. The clinic, which is based in Grahamstown with a branch in Queenstown, handles cases on various matters including family law, housing and land disputes, and consumer law. It also provides hands-on support to paralegals and advice offices throughout the province, which in turn provide paralegal advice to poor communities and assist these communities in accessing their rights. This grant will help build the capacity of and provide support for the community-based advice offices and paralegals. It also will facilitate accredited training of paralegals and provide grants to advice offices.
