About this grant

The program goal is to strengthen community foundations globally. To this end, the Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support and the European Foundation Centre created a grantmaking fund focusing on community foundations and their support organizations in developing and transitioning countries around the world. The fund’s objectives include demonstrating the potential of community foundations as instruments for achieving community empowerment; building long-term local resources through the promotion and development of local philanthropy; and promoting peer-to-peer learning among community foundation initiatives throughout the world. Additional grant funds will support the operations of the fund during the first half of 2009 as it transitions from a project of the European Foundation Centre to an independent entity. The European Foundation Centre is an independent membership association of foundations and corporate funders dedicated to promoting organized philanthropy in Europe and internationally.
