About this grant
The program goal is to engage with active citizens and nonprofit groups to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms in Ukraine. Through its network of 23 member organizations, the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union will work to raise public awareness of human rights through a range of informational and educational activities, including an annual human rights documentary film festival. It will continue a program of strategic litigation highlighting critical instances of rights abuse. The grantee will also monitor and report on the state of rights protection in Ukraine and will help establish a Human Rights House as a focal point for rights promotion. In 2011, the grantee provided over 11,000 consultations through its legal advice centers and saw traffic to its Web site almost triple to 424,000 unique visitors. Established in 2004, the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union works to promote practical observance of the range of international human rights instruments to which Ukraine is a party.
