About this grant
The Institute for Healing of Memories was created to contribute to the healing of individuals and communities affected by the political conflict and violence during apartheid and to share South Africa’s experience of dealing with its past with the broader international community. It works in five provinces across South Africa, and the core program is its Healing of Memories workshops, which provide a safe space for dialogue and openness to deal with issues such as reconciliation, forgiveness, dealing with the past, restorative justice, peace building, and conflict resolution. Past achievements include hosting dialogues in response to xenophobic attacks in South Africa to promote tolerance and understanding; documenting stories of healing through print and digital media; and hosting an international conference called Culture Genocide: Journey of Indigenous Healing. This grant renewal will support the grantee to continue supporting various individuals and communities in their healing journeys.
