About this grant
The Umzimkulu Professionals Initiative project was started by local black professionals from Umzimkulu, a very poor and rural area in the Eastern Cape. These professionals, who have been fortunate enough to do well, believe that they have a responsibility to contribute to the development of their community by giving something back in the form of funds, skills, expertise and time. This grant will support the growth, development and strengthening of the Umzimkulu Professionals Initiative as a viable, indigenous and community-based philanthropic initiative. The initiative will identify challenges and projects with the community and then seek the necessary resources to respond to these challenges and implement various projects. The emphasis in selecting projects is focused on poverty eradication, local economic development and long-term sustainability. The Kromhoek Development Trust was established in late 2005 to raise and manage funding for development on behalf of the Kromhoek Community in the Eastern Cape.
