About this grant
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund was established by former South African President Nelson Mandela to address the plight of children in South Africa. The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund seeks to change the way in which society treats children and youth in order to improve their lives. This grant will enable the fund to pilot an afterschool supplementary education program in partnership with Mindset Network, a multimedia, interactive, educational project aimed at improving teaching and learning in South African schools, particularly among disadvantaged groups and communities. The program will provide afterschool instruction, especially in mathematics and the sciences; training in the use of information and communication technology; and teaching of life skills to enable young people to make informed choices around issues of sexuality, HIV/AIDS, career planning and civic responsibility.
