About this grant

The program goal is to support the development of local philanthropy and community foundations in Bulgaria. During the grant period, the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation will provide institutional development grants to ten existing community foundations in Bulgaria to strengthen their institutional capacities and improve their fundraising and fund development strategies. In addition, the grantee will support initiative groups with a strong potential to develop community foundations in at least three new localities. Also, the grantee will cooperate with the Association of Community Foundations in Bulgaria to promote the concept of community foundations and to increase the level of resources available to them from private and public sources. Key project results to date include strengthening the role of community foundations as key supporters for local grassroots organizations; raising twice the amount of the project grant funding from local resources; and establishing new community foundations in three of the largest cities in Bulgaria, including the capital Sofia.
