About this grant
This grant will support the Flint STRIVE Academy Summer Youth Project, a 10-week summer youth employment project for 40 low-income youth ages 14 through 19. Twenty youth will be employed in beautification and gardening projects at public housing sites and another 20 by Flint STRIVE’s ACHIEVE Employment Services. In addition, during the 10-week period youth will participate in Freedom School Concepts, a cultural program designed to address issues of intergenerational respect, self-esteem, anger management and other character-building activities.Flint Area Specialized Employment Service (FASES) was established in 2001 to provide workforce training and job placement assistance to low-skilled workers in Genesee County. FASES operates Flint STRIVE, a replication of the national soft-skills training program developed by East Harlem Employment Services.
