About this grant
This grant will provide partial support to the annual Tapology Tap Dance Festival for Youth, a collaborative effort between the Flint Institute of Music and Tapology, Inc., to preserve the heritage of tap dance as an American art form. The four-day festival on the Flint Cultural Center campus introduces local students to the art and history of tap. It also brings in professional artists to provide instruction for beginners as well as more advanced workshops for experienced young dancers. The festival culminates with a tap competition and a public concert where competition winners perform along with professional dancers on stage at The Whiting.
