About this grant
This grant will provide partial support to the annual Tapology Tap Dance Festival for Youth, a collaborative effort between the Flint Institute of Music and Tapology, Inc., to preserve the heritage of tap dance as an American art form. In partnership with the Flint Community Schools, YouthQuest, and the Flint Cultural Center institutions, the four-day festival provides exposure for local students to the art and history of tap. Professional artists provide instruction for beginners, as well as more advanced workshops for experienced young dancers. The festival culminates in a tap competition and public concert where winners perform along with professional dancers on stage at The Whiting. Tap dance increases physical activity and enhances cognitive development for participants.
