About this grant
This grant will provide partial support for Tapology outreach programs. Tap dance is an enduring American art form that increases physical activity and enhances cognitive development for participants. In partnership with local schools, community centers, and the Flint Institute of Music, the grantee provides area youth with an introduction to tap dance through Visiting School Days and offers regular classes for beginners to advanced students. Each year Tapology outreach programming culminates into a four-day festival that provides exposure for local students to the art and history of tap. Professional artists provide instruction for beginners, as well as more advanced workshops for experienced young dancers. Students compete for an opportunity to perform at the public concert alongside professional dancers on stage at The Whiting.
