About this grant
This grant will enable the Urban Institute to conduct research that will help frame policy discussions regarding a new social safety net. There is a need for better information about promising approaches to address the needs of the hardest to serve and new directions for supporting working families both on and outside welfare. Building on recent and ongoing research projects, the institute proposes to assess and identify potential strategies for helping families struggling with major problems that sharply constrain work, and for low-wage workers. The Urban Institute was founded in 1968 to provide objective, nonpartisan research. Its objectives are to sharpen thinking about society’s problems and efforts to solve them, improve government decisions and their implementation, and increase citizen awareness about important public choices.
