About this grant
The Heart of the Lakes Center for Land Conservation Policy was founded in 2004 to support the efforts of land trust organizations in Michigan. Since 2006, the grantee’s 30 members permanently protected 186,000 acres of open space, farmland, and forests. With prior Mott support, the grantee successfully concluded its Advancing Conservancy Excellence Program which helped 12 Michigan land trusts gain national accreditation. The grantee also provided member services, reviewed and informed conservation policies, and began to help members explore community engagement opportunities. With renewed support, the grantee will continue these activities and take steps to strengthen its internal operations.
