About this grant
In its four years of existence, the Genesee County Land Bank has acquired more than 4,000 properties. To address the need for maintenance of these properties and continue steps to implement elements of the Sasaki Flint River District plan, this grant will enable the Genesee Institute – in partnership with the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment – to conduct a one-year ecological design initiative. The project goal is to incorporate ecological design principles for vacant lands and brownfield sites in the city of Flint. The Genesee Institute, an affiliate of the Land Bank, was created in 2005 to provide technical assistance to jurisdictions interested in establishing their own land banks and opportunities for planning and research on issues related to vacant properties, sustainable neighborhoods and urban sprawl.
