West Virginia Statewide Afterschool Network

About this grant

This grant will support the West Virginia University Research Corporation which coordinates the West Virginia Statewide Afterschool Network. In addition to continuing the network’s core work to advance afterschool in West Virginia, it will complete a multiyear project to elevate the contribution and leadership of afterschool programs in a statewide effort to promote healthy lifestyles for children and families. The network will: 1) coordinate with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources and Department of Education to promote healthy lifestyles to improve student outcomes; 2) develop policy briefs on health and wellness best practices; 3) develop state regulations for physical activity in afterschool programs; and 4) provide families access to nutrition information and healthy foods through afterschool programs.
