About this grant
Few regions in the U.S. have experienced the sustained economic trauma of Flint, which has lost three-quarters of its manufacturing jobs in the past two decades. At the same time, the community has demonstrated remarkable resilience and is in the process of becoming a regional medical, educational and cultural center in mid-Michigan. One expression of this resilience has been the commitment that faith institutions have made to remaining in the city and responding to the multiple challenges facing families and neighborhoods. Several of these churches have joined together to begin a congregation-based community organizing project called Flint Area Congregations Together, an affiliate of the PICO National Network. Funding will provide partial support to the organization during the start-up phase.
