About this grant
This grant will provide support to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund to undertake the final steps in the establishment of a dedicated children’s hospital in Gauteng, South Africa. Based on the overwhelming need for improved health-care services for children in South Africa, a feasibility study has been conducted to determine the size and specialties of a new children’s hospital, and potential sites have been identified. The next phase in the development of the hospital is to produce a detailed business plan and secure the licensing necessary to open a children’s hospital. Work will include establishing the governance and management structure, designing the hospital, developing fundraising plans and marketing strategies, and selecting the appropriate location. If built, the hospital will bear the name of Nelson Mandela. The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund is a grantmaking and development organization focused on children and youth in South Africa.
