About this grant
The Association of University Legal Aid Institutions Trust promotes access to justice for poor and marginalized communities through fostering partnerships between legal aid institutions attached to universities in South Africa and community-based advice offices. Past support has enabled the grantee to make small grants to advice offices, conduct workshops to inform people about their rights and how to access them, train and mentor paralegals working in community-based advice offices on various aspects of the law and office administration, provide backup legal services to paralegals in advice offices, and assist poor people with free legal advice and related services. This grant will provide support to train paralegals on various aspects of the law, train management committees on governance, make small grants to advice offices and university law clinics, provide legal assistance to poor people, and host workshops for community members and school children on human rights and how to access them.
