About this grant
The Foundation for Contemporary Research contributes to sustainable poverty alleviation interventions at the local level by facilitating municipal-community partnerships. It coordinates the Good Governance Learning Network, a loose alliance of 13 South African nonprofit organizations that work to promote good local governance. This grant will assist the Foundation for Contemporary Research to provide a platform for networking, learning, and sharing of experiences for members of the Good Governance Learning Network. Members will also undertake joint research and advocacy activities on issues, including public participation, access to municipal information, municipal performance management and budgeting, political systems and processes, corruption and poor administration. A "State of Local Government" report will be published annually and will provide a civil society commentary on the state of local government and governance in South Africa.
