About this grant
The goal of United Way Romania is to improve the quality of life in Romanian communities through promoting and developing individual giving, corporate giving, and volunteering. To this end, the grantee will expand its corporate donor support base, increase the effectiveness of its fundraising, enlarge its pool of long-term volunteers, and improve the quality and impact of the projects it supports. In addition, the grantee will use highly skilled volunteers to increase the capacity of its staff in Bucharest, Timisoara, and Cluj. United Way Romania was established in 2004. It runs workplace giving campaigns where funds raised from individual workers are matched by their companies. These funds are distributed to nonprofit organizations providing social services in the area of greater Bucharest. In 2009-2010, despite the economic crisis, the grantee raised over $1.2 million through payroll giving and supported 67 projects.
