About this grant

The Great Lakes Compact, a proposed interstate compact that would govern water withdrawals and diversions throughout the portion of the basin in the United States, is now under serious consideration in most of the Great Lakes states. State-level and local conservation organizations will be engaged in the associated policy discussions. With this grant, the State Environmental Leadership Program, a national organization that supports groups working at the state level, will provide technical assistance to the environmental community in the Great Lakes states on how to effectively communicate with the public about the compact. Project activities will include message development, a regional meeting of communication professionals, training workshops in selected states, and individualized consulting. On-line resources will also be made available.
