About this grant
This grant will provide partial support to the Flint Institute of Music for its 2011 Music in the Parks concert series. The free summer concerts will include four performances at various parks in Flint and Genesee County. The Flint Symphony Orchestra will perform at two concerts, including a downtown concert with Motown artist, Sonny Turner, formerly of the Platters. Other concerts will feature local gospel music groups and a jazz ensemble from Detroit. The overall goal of Music in the Parks is to enrich the lives of people in Flint and Genesee County by offering residents an opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of live musical performances in different locations throughout the community.
