About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen women’s participation in community development initiatives and in local- and national-level decisionmaking. To this end, this grant supports the organizational and programmatic development of the Kosova Women’s Network, a network of women’s nongovernmental organizations. The grantee supports its members through opportunities for exchange, capacity building, and joint campaigns. With more than 80 members from all of Kosovo’s ethnic communities, the grantee is instrumental in promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls in Kosovo. In 2010-2011, the grantee raised public awareness about gender equality mechanisms in Kosovo, undertook two citizen-led advocacy campaigns, and provided development and technical assistance to network members. During the grant period, the grantee will focus on empowering women to participate in politics and decisionmaking processes at municipal and national levels, engaging in advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns on key issues facing women, and building the capacity of the network and its members to work effectively at local levels and engage in joint projects nationally. Kosova Women’s Network was established in 2000 and is based in Pristina.
