About this grant
The project goal is to analyze the role of civil society in advancing both justice and the broader process of democratic transition in countries experiencing transition from war to peace and/or repression to democracy. Researchers at London School of Economics and Political Science will study the scope and characteristics of civil society engagement in transitional justice at local, national, regional, and global levels. The Western Balkans will be used as a case study because civil society there is engaged in transitional justice at multiple levels. This grant supports research in the Western Balkans and a two-day meeting with local and international experts in Belgrade, Serbia. In 2008, the results of this analysis will be published in the flagship annual publication of the school’s Global Civil Society Programme, the Global Civil Society Yearbook.
