About this grant
This grant will provide support for two projects to be undertaken by the Flint Institute of Music. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Flint Symphony Orchestra, the Flint Institute of Music will write and publish a book to document the achievements and history of this outstanding musical institution. A scheduled 2008-2009 performance of “Peter and the Wolf” will feature dancers from the Flint Youth Ballet and musicians with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra. There will be one public presentation, as well as two performances for area school children, at The Whiting. Priority will be given to Flint schools and other local school districts without music programs. Schools will receive a voucher to assist with transportation costs, as well as a study guide and a CD of the music to help teachers prepare students for the performance.
