About this grant

The program goal is to promote processes that strengthen public participation in the development of communities. The Foundation for Independent Radio Broadcasting will continue to strengthen a growing network of participatory community radio stations based in universities across Russia. Specifically, the grantee will provide training and technical support to forge links between university students, faculty, community groups, and local listeners in order to establish independent and progressive information sources in participating communities. New Internet-based technologies will be used to create and share programming among all participating stations. In 2007-2010, the grantee helped develop the technical and editorial capacity of ten university radio stations, involving over 600 student journalists and community representatives. Over 330 podcasts on current and community affairs were created and are accessible to a national audience. The Foundation for Independent Radio Broadcasting has worked in Russia since 1999 to provide training for radio journalists and promote educational programming for Russian audiences.
