About this grant
The program goal is to promote processes that strengthen public participation in the development of communities. The Foundation for Independent Radio Broadcasting will create a replicable model of participatory community radio stations based in universities across Russia. Specifically, the foundation will provide training and technical support to forge links between Russian university students, faculty, community stakeholders, and local listeners, with the goal of establishing stations that can serve as influential and progressive voices in their communities. New Internet-based technologies will be used to create and share programming among all participating stations. This community radio network will be initiated in nine communities across Russia during the grant period. The grantee has worked in Russia since 1999 to provide training for radio journalists and technicians and to promote educational programming for Russian radio audiences.
