About this grant

The Boy Scouts of America – Tall Pine Council is one of the largest youth organizations serving Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee counties, and focuses on character development, leadership, physical fitness, and citizenship. In 1999, the council purchased the Camp Sherwood property, which was adjacent to Camp Holaka, from the Detroit Area Girl Scout Council. Although the Boy Scouts of America – Tall Pine Council has sold off adjacent property and paid toward the debt annually, a significant balance remains. Retiring this debt will allow the organization to move forward with significant programmatic increases as a result of no longer needing to divert general operating money to debt service. Of particular interest to the council is increasing its urban scouting and urban classroom programs.
