About this grant
This grant will provide renewal support to the Council for Advancement of Adult Literacy for the second phase of the National Commission on Adult Literacy. Over the course of two years, this prestigious group of business, political, philanthropic, and education leaders studied the challenges of adult education and workforce development facing the nation. On June 26, 2008, the commission released a final report with recommendations to achieve the goal of serving 20 million adults annually by the year 2020. Phase two of the project will begin implementation of the commission’s recommendations by convening workshops, undertaking research and analysis, and pursuing a communications strategy. Established in 2001, the grantee organization is an independent, national public charity dedicated to transforming the nation’s adult education enterprise into an adult education and workforce skills system that meets the needs of the 21st century.
