About this grant
With more than 3,500 members across the state, Mobile Baykeeper seeks to protect and restore Alabama’s largest freshwater system — the Mobile Bay watershed. With prior Mott support, the grantee worked to reduce stormwater pollution, one of the most significant threats to the rivers draining into Mobile Bay. Specifically, the grantee helped strengthen Alabama’s stormwater policies by engaging in policy review processes, educating local officials and private sector partners, and training citizens to monitor stormwater programs. The grantee also helped advance the restoration of Alabama’s coastal wetlands after the 2010 oil drilling disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. This grant increase will allow the grantee to continue protecting water quality in Alabama by informing state-level stormwater policy reform processes and engaging in state and regional efforts to address ongoing oil spill impacts.
