About this grant
The program goal is to promote effective civic activism among informal citizen groups in Russia. The grantee will facilitate a series of capacity building workshops and related events for civic groups. They will also work to develop popular public spaces to foster and promote active citizenship. In addition, regular public events and dialogue will focus on equipping both civic groups and local authorities with the understanding necessary to promote more effective and responsive government service. Working with a variety of local groups in 2010-2011, the grantee succeeded in limiting a reduction of obstetric services in local hospitals, reducing administrative burdens on small businesses, and securing public oversight of planning and development in Perm. The Civic Analysis and Independent Research Center was established in 2007 by a group of Perm-based human rights groups seeking to support the development of a new generation of rights activists in Russia.
