About this grant
The Indian Law Resource Center is one of the preeminent nongovernmental organizations in the United States working to promote indigenous peoples from around the world since 1978. This renewal grant will support the grantee’s work to increase the capacity of indigenous organizations and communities to protect their environment. The project will combine Washington-based policy work at the international financial institutions with capacity building for indigenous people so that they can more effectively use international rules and safeguard policies to protect their natural resources. In particular, the project will help communities reduce the impact of infrastructure and energy projects in South America where such projects are threatening the environment and local livelihoods.
