About this grant
This renewal grant will provide continued support to the Sphinx Organization to offer a continuum of music instruction to underserved students in Flint, Michigan. The Sphinx Overture program, which introduces students to classical music and the violin, will operate in all 12 of the elementary schools in the Flint Community Schools system. The program provides students with instruments and free group violin lessons after school. Students in the program are eligible for additional private lessons with program instructors at the school, as well as scholarships to take more advanced violin lessons and classes at the Flint Institute of Music at no cost. In addition, the Sphinx Catalyst Quartet will come to Flint for a performance and residency. These experienced artists will provide master classes, lessons, and chamber music coaching to students and hold free public performances for the community.
