About this grant
This grant will support a feasibility study for the adaptive re-use of the Capitol Theatre for the University of Michigan-Flint’s Music Department. The university’s music department does not have adequate rehearsal or dedicated performance space in the academic classroom building where they are located. The university’s music department, one of only a few programs in the area accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, risks losing their accreditation if these facility issues are not addressed. This study will identify the rehearsal, performance, and department space needs of the university, estimate rehabilitation costs, evaluate the acoustics of the renovated theatre, and project operating expenses.
