About this grant
This grant will support the Providence After School Alliance in implementing the Providence New Day for Learning initiative. This initiative seeks to launch a New Day for Learning that spans grades 6-12 and closely links the school day with the vast network of afterschool supports available in the community to create a seamless day for students that redefines how, where, and when students learn. A diverse array of partners will initiate cultural and institutional change that creates a more interlinked system to support Providence, Rhode Island’s youth and to change the current culture of independent entities operating in fragmented ways. As part of this initiative, Providence will be in a learning community of eight other district-community partnerships that includes Flint, Michigan. The project will provide policymakers and practitioners with tangible, visible examples of the value of strengthening the linkages between afterschool and education.
